Connectors drive for disc miniaturisation

A Fujikura Europe - DDK Connector Division product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Mar 28, 2003

Fijikura DDK manufactures a wide range of connector solutions for hard disc drives, including the latest 1.8in devices.

With the decreasing cost and physical size of hard disc drives, and the increasing requirement for data storage capacity, the need for HDDs in a wider variety of products is growing.

These advances are also forcing the range of connectors available to expand, and to keep pace with the HDD developments and user requirements.

One example of these developments is the reduction in size of HDDs from the traditional 3.5in drive to the 2.5in drive and now the recent release of the 1.8in drive from Toshiba.

Another requirement by equipment manufacturers is the need for connector integration, ie signal and power connectors integrated into one connector body, thus saving assembly costs and PCB space.

One connector manufacturer who has managed to keep pace with these developments is Fujikura DDK, who can offer all three HDD size connectors (in fact the company is the only manufacturer that currently produces connectors for the Toshiba 1.8in drive).

The range includes many styles of integrated connectors for the HDD market and, with its strong design engineering capabilities Fujikura is also able to work with OEMs to develop custom connectors to suit exact requirements, if necessary.
