Fujikura DDK has expanded its range of connectors designed to meet the electrical and mechanical requirements of the high-speed Serial ATA specification for connection between disc drives.

Fujikura DDK has expanded its range of connectors designed to meet the electrical and mechanical requirements of the high-speed Serial ATA specification for connection between disc drives.

The Serial ATA architecture effectively doubles the bandwidth, or data capacity, between disk drives, allowing a transfer rate of 1.5Gbit/s, with a plan to increase this to 6.0Gbit/s, and is effectively a replacement for the Parallel ATA interface.

The connector design is made up of a seven-contact signal-carrying section and a 15-contact power-carrying section allowing the use of 3.3, 5 or 12V supplies.

The contacts are staggered, which allows for hot-plugging, and the connector body has been designed for blind mating applications such as notebook media bays or raid storage units.

This range of connectors is currently available in cable assembly or PCB options, surface mount and through hole, right angle and straight, and also with signal only or both signal and power contacts.
