Fingerprint Cards has released two new complete stand-alone biometric subsystems, the FPC-AM (area module) and FPC-SM (swipe module).
The new system will be certified to the high security requirements specified by the Common Criteria, level 4+, which is the common international standard for IT security.
Following successful testing of the system Comex Electronics has now placed their first order with Fingerprint Cards.
The order, valued at SK2 million, comprises sensors, processors and algorithms.
Delivery will be made in summer 2003.
The system that Comex Electronics has developed controls access to computer networks and is a "match on card", system which means that the matching of finger patterns and the identity verification decision is taken within the microprocessor chip on the smart card.
The smart card reader, developed by Comex Electronics, houses Fingerprint Cards' biometric sensor and processor chip for reading and extraction of finger pattern data.
The smart card is a Java card delivered by Oberthur Card Systems, a world-leading supplier of smart card technology.
Fingerprint Cards' algorithm for the storing and matching of finger patterns is implemented within the card microprocessor where the cardholder's credentials, encryption key and digital signature are also kept.
Finger pattern verification is used for enhanced security at authentication and digital signing in combination with PIN verification.
