Force Computers has introduced the PMC-8260/ATM155 telecomms controller module for extending asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) connectivity in telecomms-standard network applications and the PSTN.

Force Computers has introduced the PMC-8260/ATM155 telecomms controller module for extending asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) connectivity in telecomms-standard network applications and the public-switched telephone network (PSTN) Based on a PowerQUICC II 200MHz processor on a PCI mezzanine card (PMC), the new module provides the maximum available ATM optical-interface performance - 155Mbits/s - via PMC slots for all standard CompactPCI boards

Also enhanced with Force's patent-pending FPGA-based Internet protocol (IP) support, it offers an ideal solution for OC-3 and STM-1/STS-3c telecomms requirements over single- or multimode fibre-optic interfaces with SC-duplex connectors.

Supporting 64bit bandwidth the PMC-8260/ATM155 module allows embedded systems developers to flexibly configure data communications, telecommunications, industrial control, network or other applications as well as decrease development costs and time-to-market.

It provides a seamless upgrade to state-of-the-art I/O technology.

Its capability for enhanced IP over ATM with Force's patent-pending FPGA alleviates the software overhead for applications and optimises network performance.

By implementing Motorola's cutting-edge MPC8260 core PowerQUICC II processor in a standard PMC form-factor, the PMC-8260/ATM155 module offers a cost-effective solution for expanding ATM connectivity on single board computers with PMC slots.

In addition to 155Mbits/s ATM interface, patent-pending IP enhanced performance, SC-duplex connectors (for OC-3 and STM-1/STS-3c telecomms standards) and RJ-45 connectors (for Fast Ethernet), the module also offers: dual 10/100 Ethernet interfaces; quality of service (QoS) support for CBR, VBR, UBR, ABR classes; 32Mbyte SDRAM; 2Mbyte user Flash memory; 1Mbyte SRAM; address pipelining; and a VxWorks board support package.

PMC-8260/ATM155 telecomms controller PMC modules are now available in volume.
