LED backlighting consumes less current
Forge Europa claims to have perfected a cost-conscious technique to provide LED backlighting for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
White LEDs shed light on new applications
Developed as a result of an extensive research programme, the OptiLED range of high performance white LED lamps is now available from Forge Europa.
These splined LEDs (SPLEDs for short) are LED bulb replacements which can be used without a printed circuit board.
They just push into a predrilled hole with a friction fit, and IDC connection makes interconnection easy.
SPLEDs can stand alone or march together in extended strips to provide unique scope for the creative lighting design engineer.
They provide a very wide viewing angle of 120 degrees, and diode protection ensures that they can survive harsh environments.
Forge Europa LED technology is ideally suited to switch top and pushbutton illumination.
With low current consumption - typically 35mA - LEDs emit very little heat, keeping temperatures low within the switch housing.
Their long life means negligible maintenance and low ownership costs.
LEDs now come in the full visible spectrum of colours, so switch top designers can dispense with coloured filters and enjoy increased legend definition.
They are much more shock-resistant than incandescent lamps, and have a better on/off response in standard switching or flashing modes.
In addition to these new developments, Forge Europa will also be demonstrating a wide variety of standard products including interlocking LEDs, blue displays, precision high performance 3 and 5mm LEDs as well as white LEDs and displays.
The company will also be exhibiting its Quadriled range, which is available in a rugged 7.6mm square package.
Quadrileds have low thermal resistance, allowing devices to be run at currents up to 50mA, depending on colour, ensuring optimum performance while minimising long-term degradation.
Flat top and 5mm domed lens styles are offered and of particular interest will be the recently released triple chip single colour and RGB variants which produce an intense light suitable for display applications requiring dramatic lighting effects.
