Award recognises community spirit

Developed as a result of an extensive research programme, the OptiLED range of high performance white LED lamps is now available from Forge Europa.
According to Julie Barton, Operations Director of Forge Europa: "Just as Forge Europa is not complacent in the development of our business we wanted to apply our model of being proactive and planned to our community involvement".
The company has been involved in supporting a number of local community groups including: St Mary's Primary School, Ulverston; CBEC (Cumbria Business Education Consortium) through providing LED school workshops to a number of local schools; Welfare State International (theatre and arts company) and its arts programme; Ulverston Rangers Football Club; South Cumbria Music Festival; Bebbington Trust; Laurel and Hardy Statue Appeal; and Ulverston Carnival.
The CommunityMark model has been developed by Business in the Community and is based on the excellence model of the British Quality Foundation.
It assesses an organisation's approach to community activity and is divided into two sections, business excellence and community excellence, with the Forge Europa scoring highly in both sections.
Susan Hinchcliffe of Business in the Community commended Forge Europa on "the business' excellent community programme, which is an example of excellence that will undoubtedly inspire others to do the same".
Barton concludes: "I am delighted that Forge Europa has received this award".
"It reflects the company's commitment to its community programme which supports a vast number of local organisations on an ongoing basis and rewards the whole Forge Europa team for their efforts".
