The KeyStream product has been developed by Fujitsu with just these needs in mind and builds on the experience gained from its current ADSL, ATM and MPEG product ranges.
KeyStream is the key component completing the ADSL set-top box chipset solution, accompanying the KeyWave ADSL modem and Rampeg MPEG-2 decoder.
By choosing to use KeyStream, the development of an xDSL set-top box can be reduced to a simple modification of an existing satellite, cable or terrestrial box.
Fujitsu's software development team have produced code to control the data path and manage the services provided by the xDSL connection, and integration of service management with middleware is simplified by the availability of high level APIs for the KeyStream operating across its coprocessor interface.
"We believe that this approach to high level software integration will be crucial to the swift provision of xDSL STBs in order to satisfy the growing demand for the exciting new services available over broadband", said Dan Parker, Systems Architect of the KeyStream.
Johannes Richter, Director of the Multimedia Business Unit, added "STB developers need a system solution and can not afford to get involved in xDSL interfaces and data path issues when their expertise lies in picture decoding and middleware.
This is why Fujitsu is providing both low cost silicon and software support for ease of integration".
KeyStream is the first in a family of access controller devices, a combined RISC and ATM SAR device with Utopia, MPEG-TS, USB and coprocessor interfaces.
In addition a 32bit SDRAM interface and configurable GPIO is provided.
A higher functionality dual port Ethernet version is due to sample in Q3 2002.
Available now in sample quantities, with mass production already underway, the 108MHz device is provided in a 208-pin plastic QFP, and operates from 2.5V with 3.3V I/O.
