Leo aims at European navigation applications
Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe is releasing its Leo FR-V (Fujitsu RISC-VLIW) chip, based on the FR-V architecture announced last year.
The new ASMs satisfy the expanded memory requirements of the advanced infrastructure and high data rates demanded by the latest mobile cellular technologies.
These latest mobile FCRAMs adopt page mode operation, which dramatically improves performance when consecutive address access occurs within the same page.
In addition to page mode, the devices integrate additional new features suited to each target market.
The first device in the family, the MB82DPS02183B, a 32Mbit mobile FCRAM, operates from a 1.8V power supply in-line with the market trend of today's GSM/GPRS mobile communications standards, where migration from a 3 to 1.8V power supply is ahead of other cellular phone standards.
The second device, the MB82DP02322A, is a 64Mbit mobile FCRAM integrating x32bit I/O to provide the enhanced performance required for the multimedia processing facilities of feature-rich cellular phone standards like WCDMA and UMTS.
"We believe that FCRAM technology has made a significant design contribution towards meeting the demand for high-density RAM, and has established pseudo SRAM as a new alternative to low-power SRAM in cellular phone applications", said Masao Taguchi, director of the System Memory Division of Fujitsu Limited.
Manfred Mettendorff, FME's manager of memory marketing added, "Together with Flash memory, Fujitsu has been supporting mobile FCRAM products in MCP packaging.
We are now able to expand our support for mobile FCRAM to wafer business in addition to traditional MCP business.
Mobile FCRAM has established a strong position in the cellular phone market, and the new mobile FCRAM will further reinforce our market position in GPRS, Edge and WCDMA, especially in the European market.
Future versions will expand our base of applications even further".
Samples of the MB82DPS02183B and MB82DP02322A series will be available in October this year.
