Set-top reference design hits the
streets

DiBcom and Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe have merged their chipsets onto a common reference design to offer simplified development of mobile and portable DVB-T solutions.

DiBcom and Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe have merged their chipsets onto a common reference design to offer simplified development of mobile and portable DVB-T solutions This reference design is the first solution of its kind offering either single or diversity options for very good quality reception in mobile or portable applications

Whether it is for in-car entertainment or domestic flat screens, digital terrestrial TV offers exceptional reception anywhere, even in kitchens or bedrooms, without connecting the receiver to a fixed antenna or outlet.

However it is essential that the right combination of silicon components be used for high quality reception and video decoding.

"DiBcom is proud to partner with Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe to offer an integrated solution for mobile and portable digital TV reception with the new DIB3000-MC or DIB3000-P in single and diversity modes, respectively".

"In this way we can address each specific market with the right quality at the right price".

"Fujitsu offers the best solution for MPEG-2 video decoding, and DiBcom provides the best solution for DVB-T reception".

"Together, we can offer the best digital terrestrial TV solution to consumers", comments Yannick Levy, President of DiBcom.

"The combination of Fujitsu's MPEG-2 decoder with the DVB-T front-ends of DiBcom results in very good performance for (in-car) mobile and portable reception".

"This partnership accelerates the time to market for our customers in providing the means to deliver best classes of DVB-T receiver solution", adds Johannes Richter, Multimedia Director, Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe.

When used in diversity mode, the DIB3000-MC circuit can receive a DVB-T signal even with a Doppler shift of up to 130Hz, corresponding to 250km/h at 500MHz.

This performance represents more than four times the capability of other devices on the market.

Using diversity mode with maximum ratio combining, it is possible to receive the same TV channels in the car as you can at home.

The DIB3000-P circuit can be used in both single and diversity modes.

Whereas diversity provides great improvement with indoor coverage, at up to 8dB gain (from 30% coverage of the home up to 90% in some cases), single mode reception is very robust when encountering signal disturbances due to noise.

This could be from electric appliances, electromagnetic waves from the screen itself, moving bodies in the room changing the echo profile of the signal, or an antenna receiving strong echoes.

Thanks to DIB3000-P chips, LCD screens offer now a great new portable solution to watch TV anywhere in the house, with excellent quality reception and no complex installation.

The SmartMPEG (MB86H22) fulfils the critical requirements for silicon components used in automotive and portable applications, eg extended temperature range (-40 to +85C) and low power dissipation.

The ITU-R656 input and output also allows a simple implementation of hybrid receivers, where analogue and digital reception are combined in one receiver. Request a free brochure from Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe ...
