Digitisers take peak detection onboard

Peak detection is a widely used data analysis and reduction technique.
Traditionally, PC-based waveform digitisers provide raw data to user applications, which then analyse the data on the host PC using techniques such as peak detection.
Often waveform data throughput exceeds the capacity of the databus or the speed of traditional peak detection analysis routines.
For these requirements, Gage's new peak detection technology is available as an optional field programmable gate array (FPGA) image that may be installed on any of Gage's new-generation high-performance 12 or 14bit digitisers.
These new-generation digitisers include the CS12400, CS14200 and CS14105, as well as the soon to be released Octopus family of low-cost multichannel digitisers.
The peak detection technology was designed to be transparent to Gage's standard CompuScope Windows drivers.
In fact, the optional peak detection technology can be implemented by existing Gage customers on cards already in use in the field without requiring the card to be sent back to Gage for reprogramming.
Applications for Gage's new peak detection technology include: ultrasound, radar or lidar testing, spectrometry, optical fibre testing, stimulus-response systems and network analysis.
Other available FPGA images include widely used data analysis techniques such as signal averaging and finite impulse response filtering.
"In an effort to make these new FPGA technologies affordable and easily available to our customers, we have lowered the price to $995 per option, and now offer a special bundled package - pay for two and get the third for free", said Eric Gillas, Gage General Manager.
"We will continue to offer new application specific FPGA technology onboard our digitisers in the future", Gillas added.
