Gennum Corporation's newest three-chip solution for the professional video market provides broadcast format conversion quality at an affordable price to global customers.

Gennum Corporation is to manufacture highly integrated format conversion ICs with products targeted at broadcast, projector, plasma/LCD display and other professional applications The newest three-chip solution (GF9331/GF9330/GF9320), which is part of the MultiGEN product family, is said to provide broadcast format conversion quality at an affordable price to global customers

The GF9331 motion coprocessor is a high performance chip that can be used in conjunction with the GF9330 high performance de-interlacer.

Together, the two compact chips implement a motion adaptive de-interlacer for both SDTV and HDTV digital television signals.

The GF9331 contains pixel-based adaptive edge detectors that cover a large number of different edge detections and a motion detector that covers special motions in the vertical direction.

The GF9330 de-interlacer is a high performance VDSP engine that performs high quality de-interlacing of interlaced digital television signals and supports both SDTV and HDTV signal formats, including 1080P60.

It includes a large number of edge directional adaptive filters, a motion adaptive vertical filter and a motion adaptive interfield filter.

The GF9330 can also be used without the GF9331 for low quality, cost sensitive applications.

The GF9320 broadcast quality scaling processor performs high quality scaling of video as well as graphic images up to 2K by 2K pixel resolution and provides: pan, scan and zoom/shrink abilities.

A fully programmable output matrix provides for YUV.

RGB conversions, gain and hue controls.

In addition, the GF9320 offers colour background and output TRS insertion.

Typical applications for our newest three-chip format conversion solution span from high-end broadcast through to professional display applications.

For example, broadcast quality up/down and cross conversions, aspect ratio conversions, large venue displays, projection systems, plasma displays, multipanel LCD displays, home theatre systems and HD-DVD applications.
