Equaliser compensates for cable losses
The first two members of the HD-LINX II family of devices for HDTV/SDTV multirate SDI systems from Gennum are the GS1524 multirate adaptive equaliser and the GS1528 dual slew-rate cable driver.
It also allows HD product design costs to be spread over both HD and SD families, giving a cost advantage throughout each portfolio.
As consumers and professionals manage the transition from existing analogue equipment to next generation DV, product developers must offer a wide choice of cost-effective options to match their customers' needs.
These new products from Gennum, which are compatible with corresponding GS1532 and GS1560 serialiser/ deserialiser chips, the GS1524 multirate adaptive cable equaliser and GS1528 multirate SDI dual slew rate cable driver for HD/SD multirate applications, allow equipment developers to cost-effectively address the diverse price/performance priorities of customers at all levels.
Two of the four chips in the family, the Gennum GS9060 deserialiser and GS9062 serialiser, implement complete SMPTE functionality including SMPTE 259 M-C scrambling and descrambling, word alignment and standards detection, plus insertion, error detection and correction of CRCs, TRSs, ANC data checksums, line numbers and EDH CRCs.
The GS9064 SDI adaptive cable equaliser and GS9068 SDI cable driver are also pin-compatible with HD/SD multirate components.
Simply by populating an existing HD multirate board with these four chips, a complete SD serial digital interface (SDI) may be completed quickly and efficiently at zero design risk and with almost no additional design effort.
The GS9060 and GS9062 each feature a SMPTE 259M compliant cable driver output, and implement complete DVB-ASI functionality by providing internal 8b and 10b encoding and decoding and fill character insertion/detection.
The GS9064 2nd-generation adaptive cable equaliser equalises and restores 270Mbit/s signals received over 75ohm coaxial cable, and is designed to support both SMPTE 259M-C and DVB-ASI at 270Mbit/s.
