Daktronics is producing the largest high-definition video display in collegiate sports using Gennum's Visual Excellence Processing (VXP) technology The multi-million-dollar display, set to be installed and operational by the 2nd September season opener, is part of the total stadium renovation of the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium

The new display will provide broadcast quality high-definition viewing and crystal clear video.

This represents an evolution for stadium displays, ensuring fans the best possible game-day experience.

Daktronics, a leader in programmable electronic scoreboards, message centres and video displays provides solutions for sports venues, corporations and rental and staging companies.

Among its offerings are the fully integrated, centrally controlled video and advertising systems commonly seen in stadiums.

These displays feature the independent RGB LED technology that puts Daktronics on the cutting-edge of the display industry for sharp edges, crisp details, and natural imaging.

"Superior video processing is especially important in sports viewing", said Craig Thompson, Manager, Product Marketing, Image Processing Products at Gennum Corporation.

"The display must be able to offer an experience that parallels watching the players in person".

"Daktronics required a processor that could handle computation-intensive video processing in real time, and they recognised that Gennum's GF9351 image processor with VXP technology is the only processor powerful enough to provide the required level of clarity and definition for a screen this large".

"Together, we will offer the industry standard for large-scale video displays".

The display controller, utilising the Gennum GF9351 image processor, provides cutting-edge video processing technology optimised for bright, sharp, high-definition video with fast motion.

The GF9351 features the latest de-interlacing and scaling algorithms with dynamic edge detection to provide the sharpest and cleanest possible image.

The 685m2 display will have over 175,000 pixels and will provide a viewing experience unique to both entertainment and sports.

"Viewers' expectations have increased dramatically over the past ten years, and audiences demand to see those changes reflected in our displays", said Glenn Luke, Product Manager, V-Link Processor, at Daktronics.

"Gennum' s GF9351 10bit image processing system allows us to set a new standard for video realism and processing flexibility".

"At the same time, the chip is designed with power efficiency in mind, avoiding costly energy loss, currently an important concern for our customers".
