Switch card supports multiple VXS boards
The VXS-based CRX800 managed Serial RapidIO switch offers very attractive price/performance, especially in combination with the DSP220.
In line with the company's strategy of developing the broadest range of high performance multiprocessing solutions for the 6U VME architecture, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms has released the CRX800, billed as the world's first VXS (VITA41.2) compliant Serial RapidIO managed switch card Designed to provide optimal support for VXS multiple board applications - using the GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms DSP220 VXS quad 8641 processor (announced concurrently) or alternative multiprocessor systems - the CRX800 offers 18 x4 Serial RapidIO (sRIO) payload ports, four x4 sRIO inter-switch ports and a PowerPC MPC8548 management processor which supports 128Mbyte of Flash memory and 256Mbyte of SDRAM for unsurpassed data throughput at up to 3.125GHz per lane

The CRX800, which is designed for a wide range of deployed signal- and data-processing applications for land-mobile, airborne fixed- and rotary-wing, and naval surface and underwater platforms, is available in six ruggedisation levels including air-, spray- and conduction-cooled for extended temperature operation as well as resistance to shock and vibration.
"For customers wanting to leverage the performance potential of serial switched fabrics in multiprocessing applications, but who are unable or unwilling to make the transition to VPX, the VXS-based CRX800 managed Serial RapidIO switch offers very attractive price/performance, especially in combination with the DSP220", says Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military and Aerospace Products at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms.
"They offer compelling, leading edge throughput, but represent the minimal risk of a COTS solution that is based on the pervasive and mature VME ecosystem".
The Tundra Tsi-578Serial RapidIO implementation supports operation speeds of 1.25, 2.5 and 3.125GHz per lane, while the onboard management CPU supports not only sRIO configuration but also BIT (built-in test) and switch management application software.
For long term programs that require the assurance of product continuity and compatibility, GE Fanuc Intelligent Systems offers customers, as part of the company's Product Lifecycle Management program, a range of services including revision control, design freeze and obsolescence management.
