Gel mounts damp down bad vibes
Gel-Mec UK has developed a novel series of small high-performance low-load gel mounts.
The kit contains four soft, highly damped mounts or grommets specially designed to reduce noise and absorb shock.
A mounting bolt with a built-in washer is also supplied for easy fixing, also removing the need for several pieces of hardware.
Mounting a hard disc drive this way reduces system noise by greatly limiting the amount of vibration transmitted from the HDD to the equipment enclosure.
The result is a quieter PC or piece of equipment.
The disc drive mounts can simply be attached to the chassis or fixing brackets to isolate the drive.
The kit suits both 3.5 and 2.5in drives, and there are three mount styles to suit most fixing situations.
Mount diameters are 10 or 14.5mm and suit a plate thickness of 1.0, 1.2 or 1.6mm.
Material is a soft thermoplastic olefin with a high loss coefficient and low resonance magnification, ideal for CD-ROM and HDD vibration control.
Hardness is just Shore A 37 and operating temperature range is -20 to +70C.
Gel-Mec also offers gel and elastomer disk drive shock-mounting systems plus mini cooling fan isolators for noise control.
