Stud mounts soften shocks on the streets
Soft stud mounts are ideal for cushioning electronic systems from the shock and vibration encountered in mass-transit applications.
Buses used in mass transit systems encounter a wide variety of vibration and shock from the road, engine, doors or general driving conditions.
These can all interfere with the operation of any onboard electronics like surveillance CCTV cameras, entertainment or ticketing systems.
Often electronic components like hard disk drives and mechanical components such as coin slots were not designed for use in an environment exposed to shock and vibration.
Solutions are often required to reduce shock input and provide a system natural frequency that does not overlap with the buses engine idle frequency.
Gel-Mec has a range of stud mounts which are soft enough to deflect under shock and cushion these electronic "boxes" from damage.
The mounts also have a low system frequency to reduce vibration.
They can be placed around the box to give stability and protection in all axes.
For very lightweight components such as HDDs or PCBs, Gel-Mec has a wide range of highly damped soft grommets and special electronic grade foams to reduce vibration and shock.
The grommets are already successfully in use in several European bus fleets as they offer a low cost method of protecting critical HDDs.
The foam is extremely soft and compressible but reacts like a stiff foam on impact.
A box can be easily cut to enclose the HDD or PCB and the high deflection rate means that little pressure is put back on very sensitive components.
