Inverter expands into new applications
The Quasar inverter has a wide variety of uses over and above supplying high quality AC power from a DC source.
Inverter nears the end of the road
Gresham Power is about to commence the last production run of its highly successful Quasar family of DC/AC inverters for telecomms applications.
The PCB layout, transformer design and thermal management have all been derived from military projects.
The ultrahigh efficiency comes from a combination of a fixed high switching frequency of 100KHz, full synchronous rectification on the two main outputs and half synchronous rectification on the two auxiliaries.
Losses are further minimised by employing a single controller for the two main outputs that allows up to 15A to be drawn from each.
This is the latest introduction into the eF series of ultracompact power supplies which includes the highly innovative eF306, a quad-output 300W unit which packs an amazing 10W/in3 into a 1U-high chassis.
The eF175 features a worldwide universal input voltage range from 85 to 264V AC and employs active power factor correction to typically 0.98 at full load with either 110 or 230V inputs.
All models are CE marked and certified to EN60950, UL1950 and meet EN55022 class B for conducted emissions.
MTBF is calculated to be greater than 750kh.
250 litre/min forced airflow is required for full output power, and convection cooling will provide 100W over the temperature range -5 to +50C, after which the unit must be derated linearly at 2.5% per degree up to 70C.
Input and output connections are made via standard Molex connectors and all models are protected against overtemperature, overload, overvoltage and output short circuits.
The 1U chassis height and compact dimensions of the eF175 make it suitable for applications such as telecomms, data networking, industrial computers, instrumentation, industrial control and process automation.
These four-output power supplies offer output voltages over the range 3.3 to 15V DC at currents of up to 15A.
Customer-specific output voltages can be provided on request.
Jake Moir, MD of Gresham, comments: "The eF175 is a unique product which will allow us to help our customers in their constant need to get more power from ever smaller enclosures.
The extremely small size of this product will release valuable space for functional circuitry and make their own systems better value for money".
