Gigatronix has responded to the growing need for BNC, TNC and N type connectors to perform at higher frequencies by introducing a new range of compression clamp connectors.

Commonly referred to as Top Hat fixing, they are a more traditional style of coaxial connector that offer much better performance levels, and are far more durable than other styles of commercial grade connectors.

They are also ideal for longer cable runs and test and measurement applications due to their robust and durable design and high cable retention force.

In addition to this, the connector design provides a weatherproof seal that prevents ingress at the cable entry point, making them better suited to external applications where the connector will be exposed to the environment.

Because the dielectric constant is maintained further into the connector body than with most crimp style connectors, they offer an improved VSWR, and are particularly useful in low loss microwave systems working at 1.8 and 2.5GHz where VSWR and insertion loss can be critical.

The complete range is designed to suit a broad range of cable types, including RG174, RG316, RG179, RG58, RG142, RG223, RG400, RG213 and RG214 cable as well as the newer styles of low loss microwave cables manufactured by companies including Times Microwave, Belden CDT and Commscope.

All Gigatronix compression clamp connectors are manufactured using nickel plated turned brass bodies, gold plated phosphor bronze contacts/gold plated brass pins, silicon rubber grommets and PTFE insulators.

The use of PTFE insulators means that they are able to withstand soldering at higher temperatures for longer periods during the assembly process, making them suitable for use with lead free solder and compliant with RoHS directives.
