Record turnout for Chinese chip shows
Global Sources' 11th Annual International IC-China Conference and Exhibition attracted over 27,000 design engineers and technical managers, making it the largest in the event's history.

IIC-China 2006 highlights included: 800-plus booths - 100 more than in 2005; 82 first-time exhibitors including CSR, NEC Electronics Hong Kong and ON Semiconductor; and 15 China-based IC design houses, including Arkmicro Technologies and Chipsbank Microelectronic.
Mark Saunderson, President of Global Sources' Electronics Business Unit, said: "China is the undisputed global centre for electronics manufacturing and - increasingly - design".

A UK-based workshop will give embedded software development engineers hands-on experience in running the new 5.0 release of Windows CE.NET on next generation processors.

"IIC-China showcases the latest enabling technologies available to China-based engineers, while providing leading electronic companies with a gateway into China".
Saunderson added: "IIC-China's momentum is growing, particularly in Shenzhen, the centre of electronic design and manufacturing in southern China".

"It featured over 400 booths-an increase of 37% from 2005 - and attracted 11,900-plus engineers".
Most visitors work with imported components - 71% use embedded technologies Global Sources' survey shows that on average, 68% of IIC-China visitors are electrical or electronic engineers.
61% currently work as design engineers or engineering managers.
Saunderson said: "These engineers are specifically searching for new technologies they can use".
"86% work for companies that use imported components - and 71% design products that use embedded technologies".
Participating vendors commented positively on the quality and volume of visitors.
Sharp Microelectronics' Clement Cheung, Chief Business Development Officer-Asia MCU, said: "I think we had our largest-ever attendance this year".
"We gave away every single brochure and had to ship more stock from our office".
Power Integrations' Vice-President of Marketing, Doug Bailey, commented: "IIC-China is a key part of our China promotion strategy and I'm very happy with the show".
"We've collected over 500 good leads".
NEC Electronics' Yukimasa Miyashita, Department Head - Solution Engineering, said: "Approximately 1000 visitors came to our booth to inquire about our products".
"We have already signed up for next year's event".
Thousands of design engineers and technical managers attended IIC-China's educational conference programmes.
The event's Summit Programme examined the convergence of computing, communications and consumer technologies.
Speakers included industry experts from Altera, Analog Devices, ARM China, Freescale, International Rectifier, Renesas and STMicroelectronics.
Hundreds of engineers also attended the Vendor Seminars to learn about new solutions to their design challenges.
Seminar hosts included Altera, Altium, Atmel, Intersil, Maxim, Micrel, Micron, MIPS, Semtech and SigmaTel.
The 12th IIC-China will be held on: 5th and 6th March 2007 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition centre, Shenzhen; 8th and 9th March 2007 at the China World Trade centre, Beijing; and on 13th and 14th March 2007 at Shanghai Mart, Shanghai.
