Achieving fully readable screens in any weather condition has been one of the main challenges that have faced manufacturers for many years.

GDS was determined to set the benchmark, and has spent the past four years and over GBP 1 million researching and developing its Mitra range of LCDs.

There were several challenges that the R and D team faced, the biggest hurdle being heat.

A new thermal management system was developed, enabling the Mitra system to be entirely visible in any light, making it the perfect display screen for outdoor use and night vision.

This commitment to performance led to Mitra being the first product to market that is a commercially priced, sunlight readable display.

The Mitra offers high uniformity, low power and high brightness, making it suitable for use in all areas where high ambient light precludes the use of traditional display technologies.

Used in conjunction with the GDS GI2000 inverter range, the Mitra panel can be dimmed beyond a 500:1 ratio allowing perfect viewing no matter what the conditions.

And an inbuilt thermal management system enables normal operation of the display in temperatures up to 55C.

A novel part of the GDS service is the level of after-sales support it provides to its customers.

GDS has an effective method of handling ATM breakdowns.

When a breakdown occurs the field engineer will have a new (or refurbished) replacement monitor in his vehicle, so the broken monitor is completely removed and replaced with a complete and working ATM monitor.

Within 24 hours, and to anywhere in the world, GDS will have delivered another fully working monitor to the engineer and taken away the damaged one, which is then refurbished and joins the central GDS 'ATM pool' again.
