Football match raises thousands for
charity

Swetman played for the Satellite One Cycles team (mainly comprising members of Congleton Round Table of which he is a past chairman) against Barretts Electrical, a Manchester-based company.
The match took place on 14th May 2003, and was one of the last games to be played at the 35,000-capacity stadium before it closes, when Manchester City moves to the new City of Manchester Stadium.
After a gripping match in front of a rowdy crowd of at least 60 family and friends who enjoyed director's box viewing, Barretts Electrical was presented with the winning trophy, which was provided by Swetman, after beating the Satellite One Cycles team 8-3.
As well as enjoying the one-off opportunity to participate in a Maine Road football match, wearing full Manchester City kit (a painful experience for Leeds United supporter Swetman), the teams managed to raise several thousand pounds for the NSPCC.
According to Swetman: "I am privileged to have played football at such an historical ground in aid of such a worthwhile charity.
All that took part enjoyed a most unforgettable and rewarding day".
Satellite One Cycles' MD Mike Litherland said: "This was a real once-in-a-lifetime event that embodies everything that the Round Table stands for in that we managed to have a lot of fun while raising funds for a very worthwhile cause; a win-win result in every sense".
Helen Magee, NSPCC Divisional Communications Officer (North) said: "We are really grateful to everyone who took part in the football match and helped to raise money for the NSPCC.
It is only with the support of people like GDS that the NSPCC is able to continue its work with abused and neglected children".
