Goepel Electronic has joined the LIN Consortium of leading automobile OEMs and suppliers.

Goepel Electronic has joined the LIN Consortium of leading automobile OEMs and suppliers.

The company, which is well established in the automotive test market, is now listed as Associated Partner in this community.

Membership of the LIN Consortium enables Goepel Electronic to optionally include the LIN conformance test for control units with LIN 2.0 interfaces in its Tessy range of network testers.

The company can also offer LIN conformance test services for companies that do not own their own network testers.

The conformance test covers both physical and communication characteristics (physical layer and datalink layer).

Goepel Electronic has been providing various controller and system solutions for the LINbus for a number of years.

These include the 3072 PXI/PCI card, the stand-alone basicLIN tool and complex modular test systems that support several bus systems as well as conventional signals.

The LIN Consortium was founded by automobile manufacturers Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Volvo Car Corporation, Volkswagen, Volcano Communications Technologies as well as Motorola (now Freescale Semiconductor) and various suppliers in 2000.

The community's primary objective was to define and implement another open standard for high-quality serial bus systems in vehicles.

Typical application areas for LINbus systems are vehicle control units, whereby the LINbus' advantages are its cost-effective development, production and application.

LIN (Local Interconnect Network) was especially developed for the low-priced communication of intelligent sensors and actuators as well as control elements in automobiles.

The bus is often used as a subsystem in the ECU networking.

It is also used in cases where the CANbus is not required or its implementation would be too expensive.
