Boundary scan system speeds product
development

Goepel Electronic has released a new version of the System Cascon graphical boundary scan operating system.

Goepel Electronic has released a new version of the System Cascon graphical boundary scan operating system Release 4.2 offers the user a wide range of new technologies and tools

In addition to the new Cascon Navigator and Cascon Component Explorer both claimed to dramatically shorten project development times, there is an improved Cascon 1532 Programmer as well as Hyscan, a novel feature for the generation, execution and diagnosis of hybrid formatted test patterns.

More than 20 additional new features based on customer requirements were added to the newest Cascon version.

"Particularly with regard to the synchronised processing of serial scan data with parallel I/O vectors we have reached the breakthrough", says Thomas Wenzel, Managing Director Boundary Scan for Goepel Electronic.

"With Hyscan we are the very first vendor that provides an extended solution for the flexible interaction of a freely configurable parallel pin electronic with native boundary Scan signals".

"The principle enables test programs with extremely high fault coverage, which can be reused during the entire product life cycle without recompilation".

"This means a completely new test quality and flexibility for our customers".

The Hyscan hybrid scan technology is based on a novel hardware-independent emulation method and relieves the user from the entire handling of serial-to-parallel vectors.

Therefore, test program generation and fault diagnosis can be performed without knowing the type of test access.

The parallel test vectors are connected with the individually configured pin electronics by means of so-called "wrapper modules".

By exchanging these modules, the parallel vectors can be linked to the required pin electronics without recompiling the test program.

The first supported pin electronics are the PXI 5296 and PXI 52192 parallel I/O modules from Goepel Electronic with 96 and 192 test channels, respectively.

Additional wrapper modules are under way, or can be generated by the user using development kits.

Hyscan is an extraordinary alternative to the conventional usage of serial controlled I/O modules with corresponding modification of the scan path description and merging of the netlists.

The Cascon Component Explorer is a completely new graphical tool for the interactive generation and manipulation of intelligent design data.

Unknown components and complete component cluster can now efficiently be defined and implemented into the Cascon database.

The effects on testability are displayed immediately.

The Cascon Component Explorer is directly linked with the Scan Vision tools for the visualisation of schematic and layout as well as the graphical Cascon library.

With the Cascon Navigator an integrated tool for the interactive user guidance is available.

In each stage of the project development, it gives support in terms of hyperlinks, videos or topic related documents.

A new generation of the Cascon 1532 Programmer was integrated in the new software release.

Because of a new compilation technique the interpretive handling was replaced by a two-phase-process for the script generation and binary code handling.

A special advantage is that the exchange of programming files does not require a re-compilation.

That means, the flexibility is retained but programming throughput is greatly improved.

The new tool supports all functions according to IEEE1532-2002.

Cascon Navigator and Hyscan are standard features in each System Cascon package.

System Cascon 4.2 is completely backwards compatible with all previous versions and supports all VXI, PXI, PCI, USB, GPIB, parallel port, RS232 and Fast Ethernet boundary scan controllers from Goepel Electronic. Request a free brochure from Goepel Electronic ...
