Development environment for embedded
Linux

A new version of the MULTI 2000 IDE from Green Hills Software will help simplify the development of sophisticated applications for embedded target systems running the Linux operating system.

A new version of the MULTI 2000 integrated development environment (IDE) from Green Hills Software will soon be available to help simplify the development of sophisticated applications for embedded target systems running the Linux operating system Offering much higher levels of functionality than traditional Linux-based development tools such as the GNU debugger (GDB), MULTI 2000 brings high-level debug and program building capabilities to the embedded Linux community for the first time

As a result, the IDE can reduce the time needed to develop the growing number of applications using Linux to deliver embedded solutions that combine low cost with high reliability.

Designed to automate all aspects of software development for Linux-based applications, the Green Hills MULTI 2000 IDE includes a window-orientated editor, a graphical debugger and a program builder.

MULTI 2000 also includes an instruction set simulator that allows programmers to develop and test code on a PC or workstation without the need for the target hardware.

The MULTI 2000 graphical project builder simplifies and automates the process of building complex Linux applications.

Once the Linux kernel has been built using the GNU compiler and standard Linux 'make' files, the developer can use MULTI to build the application program and combine it with the Linux kernel into a single executable image.

In addition to maintaining file dependencies (like 'makefile'), the builder lets the user set CPU, compiler, language and optimisation options.

The MULTI 2000 debugger, which provides a separate window for each application process, supports mixed assembly and high-level language formats and includes a language-sensitive expression evaluator.

It is also Linux aware, which enables designers to debug and tune their applications at a process level.

The Green Hills MULTI 2000 IDE can be hosted on Windows, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux systems, all of which can be used to develop embedded software for Linux target systems.

MULTI 2000 will be available this summer for Linux target systems based on the PowerPC processor, with x86 support planned for the near future. Request a free brochure from Green Hills Software ...
