The Velosity microkernel and Integrity RTOS, the foundation of Green Hills Software's Infotainment Reference Platform, are well suited to the requirements of infotainment applications.
Reliability and security are essential to next-generation infotainment systems.
With multiple applications running on a single processor, such as navigation and telephony, a failure in one component cannot bring down another.
In addition, as open interfaces such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are incorporated, the car must be protected from viruses and hackers.
The Integrity RTOS has unmatched reliability and security credentials.
It is the only commercially available, partitioned operating system that has been used in applications certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to the highest level required for flight-critical avionics systems.
The Integrity RTOS has also been designed into systems for the US Government that require the highest level of security certification.
The Integrity RTOS provides applications with total reliability and absolute security by taking advantage of memory protection and secure partitioning, which guarantees each task the resources it needs to run correctly along with fully protecting the operating system and user tasks from errant and malicious code, including viruses, hackers and denial-of-service attacks.
Both the Velosity microkernel and Integrity RTOS are royalty-free, and so impose no per-unit manufacturing cost.
In addition, their small footprint and scalable architecture minimise the amount of memory that must be included in a design.
Infotainment applications require high performance both to satisfy real-time performance requirements as well as to maximise the functionality that can be supported without requiring a faster, more expensive processor.
To meet real-time requirements, both the Velosity microkernel and Integrity RTOS are built using an innovative architecture that never disables interrupts in systems calls, for the fastest possible interrupt response time.
In addition, both operating systems have fast boot times, which can be under 20ms, allowing systems to respond to the stringent requirements of the in-car buses.
Green Hills Software's Infotainment Reference Platform is available today from Green Hills Software and its partners for the Analog Devices Blackfin Car Telematics Platform (CTP).
Future support is planned for other hardware reference designs. Request a free brochure from Green Hills Software ...
