IP routing enables net-centric warfare

Green Hills Software now offers a comprehensive collection of advanced layer 3 IPv4 and IPv6 routing software products for use with its Platform for Secure Networking.

Green Hills recently licensed the industry-leading GateD IP routing technology and added the seasoned development and design experts to its staff An important initiative that highlights the need for secure IP routing is net-centric warfare (NCW) and how it is driving situational awareness to the next levels

Battlefield commanders will use networks to share voice, data, and video between air, maritime, and fixed stations worldwide.

Internet Protocol (IP) is one if the key technologies enabling this vision.

"Net-centric warfare is transforming the battlefield into an enormous, dynamic, mobile collection of globally networked assets", says Dan Mender, Vice President, Business Development, Green Hills Software.

"Robust, efficient, intelligent routing software is required to ensure real-time communications across this complex grid".

"We address one of NCW's biggest challenges by providing the effective means to deliver this disparate information in real time, securely and reliability through the combination of a proven pedigree of advanced operating system technologies and IP routing solutions".

Derived from the gold standard for routing, GateD, this comprehensive collection of IP routing protocols includes RFC-compliant support for RIPv2, RIPng, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, BGP, ISIS, VRRP, MSDP, DVMRP and PIM, where these protocols are rigorously tested and validated for both RFC conformance and system interoperability in combination with the Green Hills Integrity family of real-time operating systems.

Until now, customers had to cobble together solutions and expend extra development cycles and money integrating, testing and validating their designs when these requirements existed.

With the new Green Hills offering, network device manufacturers can eliminate this added burden and bring cost-effective, reliable, secure core, edge, enterprise and SOHO class devices to market faster while supporting a complete set of integrated advanced routing and IPv4/IPv6 functionality.

"The combination of our industry-proven protocols with the secure, reliable Platform for Secure Networking creates a robust, tamper-proof foundation for customers requiring Layer 3 routing support", says Susan Hares, Director, Networking Communications, Green Hills Software.

"In today's networks, secure routing is critical because many routing devices are bombarded by security attacks".

"This complete, single source solution satisfies a wide range of device requirements while enabling rapid time to deployment with the highest levels of confidence".

The Green Hills Platform for Secure Networking is a comprehensive platform consisting of operating system, development tools, and middleware that enable developers to create secure, powerful, high-performance network-centric electronic products in the least time and at the lowest cost.

In addition to Green Hills Software's Multi, the industry's leading embedded software development toolset, the platform offers a royalty-free license for the Green Hills Integrity and Velosity operating systems, advanced file systems, dual IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP networking stack, web server, SSH, SSL, wireless communications and security software, Layer 3 IP routing software, USB, and a variety of other tightly integrated networking and application protocols.

RIPv2, RIPng, OSFPv2, OSPFv3 and BGP for the Platform for Secure Networking will be available in the first half of 2008.

Additional IP routing protocol support will follow the initial release. Request a free brochure from Green Hills Software ...
