The key highlights of the GSA Mobile Portals Survey for Q2 2001 are: The "nice to have" category of services shows growth, indicating that many of these services will be regarded as "must have" services in future The survey includes a number of Eastern European mobile portals for the first time The introduction and/or promotion of GPRS services is now included The six principal categories surveyed are Communication and Community, Information, Lifestyle, Travel, Transaction and Other A new category entitled Gambling has been added, encompassing Lottery and Betting services.
Commenting on the findings of the Mobile Portals Q2 Survey, GSA's president Alan Hadden said: "We see an increase in the number of mobile portals offering "nice to have" services.
There has also been maturing of the most popular "must have" services, such as financial news, weather, e-mail, directories.
The inclusion of the Eastern European mobile portals is a first - we wanted to provide a benchmark to reflect the rapid cellular growth in Eastern and Central Europe.
We also included a new category for GPRS, as the basis for charting how mobile portals broaden the availability of their services in line with new networks going live.
This is currently the only regular independent survey of its kind".
