Splitter sends PC video over Cat5 cable
Hall Research Technologies has introduced the first two-, eight- and 24-channel video splitters that send a PC's video signal on a standard Cat5 cable up to 500ft away.
The VS-4 provides amplified video output perfect for resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200.
The output can drive video cables up to 45m long.
The feature rich VS-4 also offers automatic switching, and scan modes.
In "auto" mode the unit detects the presence of video signals on its four inputs and switches to an active one based on customer definable priority sequence.
In "scan" mode the unit cycles through all active inputs and displays them one at a time.
The "auto" and "scan" modes can be invoked either from the front panel or from the serial control port.
Nonvolatile memory stores the last selection and switching priorities even with power off.
Other features of the VS-4 include: ability to blank the output, infinite switching life cycle, low cost, and easy integration with automated or touch-screen A/V control systems.
The switch comes with a serial (RS232) control cable and a power supply.
Hall Research's President Ali Haghjoo, states: "The features of the VS-4 make it an excellent choice for security and monitoring applications such as viewing patient's vital signs at the nurse's station in a hospital".
The VS-4 measures 210 x 70 x 38mm and weighs less than 1kg, housed in a sturdy RFI shielded enclosure.
It is priced at $345 list.
