Two new closed captioning decoders with text overlay capabilities are intended for the digital signage market.

Hall Research Technologies (HRT) has developed two new closed-captioning (CC) decoders with text overlay capabilities for the digital signage market These units can capture closed captioning text (CC1 through CC4) and overlay it on the video output

The units can also display user-defined text anywhere on the screen either played back from memory or received through a serial port in real-time.

Both units provide composite and S-Video inputs and outputs; the CC-101-Pro version also provides PC (VGA) video as well as progressive component video (YPbPr) outputs.

The devices can store up to 10 screens of text data and automatically display them either every time the unit is turned on or called up from the front panel.

Windows GUI software is provided that allows the user to define and store display-text data in the unit's internal Flash memory for playback.

The software allows timers so the text messages can stay visible for predefined time on the screen, freeze or loop.

The playback can also include closed-caption decoding for any specified period as required.

These decoders find use in applications where the line-21 closed captioning information may not be displayable, such as on most projectors or removed by video scalers that ignore the CC data.

The user definable text-overlay feature is useful for labeling video information in security, medical, or scientific applications.

The CC-101 and CC-101 Pro come in a sturdy metal case and include a universal power supply and required cables.

The CC-101 and CC-101-Pro are available from stock and are priced at US $295 and $475 respectively.
