Hitachi High-Technologies has appointed Chris Jones as Applications Specialist and Demonstrator for its Electron Microscopy Division in the UK.

Hitachi High-Technologies has appointed Chris Jones as Applications Specialist and Demonstrator for its Electron Microscopy Division in the UK.

Based at Hitachi's Demonstration Unit in Wokingham, Jones takes over responsibility for all electron microscope demonstrations, applications work and training from Dr Mike Capers who retired from full time work at the end of 2003.

Jones has joined Hitachi from the Natural History Museum, London, where he was manager of the Electron Microscopy Unit and Mineral Preparation Unit, providing an EM and laser confocal microscopy service across the entire museum.

He brings with him a wealth of experience with over 16 years of practical electron microscope usage on conventional SEMs and TEMs as well as field emission and variable pressure SEMs.

Jones has also had responsibility for training new users of the electron microscopes.

Mike Capers has taken the first steps towards a well-earned retirement, but he will not be leaving Hitachi completely.

He will be carrying out TEM demonstrations at Hitachi's European demonstration unit in Krefeld, Germany on a part-time basis.

Capers is highly respected in the electron microscopy industry and has been part of the Hitachi team since the Nissei Sangyo office was set up in the UK in 1980.

Before that he demonstrated Hitachi EMs when they were sold through Perkin Elmer in the UK.
