MCUs have a huge 32Kbyte of RAM on-chip
Hitachi Europe has announced the immediate availability of a new series of 16bit microcontrollers featuring 32Kbyte on-chip RAM - the first in the industry to do so.
Most integrated GSM RF transceiver so far
Hitachi has launched its most integrated GSM RF transceiver solution to date.
The chipset boasts low system cost, high integration and industry leading performance which makes it ideal for a wide range of stand-alone applications, such as mobile terminals, set-top boxes, access points and digital still cameras.
It incorporates the Bluestream baseband and protocol stack, licensed from Parthus Technologies, and can be used with a separate host controller, or, for simpler applications, in a stand-alone mode with a full on-chip stack.
"With our existing strong presence in wireless communications, Bluetooth is a natural market extension for Hitachi", commented Jari Kokkonen, Bluetooth Product Manager at Hitachi Europe.
"Although this is our first product in this market, it provides high performance and a complete solution, enabling designers to develop Bluetooth enabled products very rapidly".
The HD157100 single-chip radio transceiver supports Bluetooth Classes 2 and 3 and is manufactured on Hitachi's 0.35um BiCMOS SOI technology.
Based on the SH-3 32bit RISC core, the SH7630 is the industry's highest performance Bluetooth baseband controller and accommodates the Bluetooth host stack, profile and application.
It has 128Kbyte RAM and 16Kbyte cache memory, a 921Kbit/s serial communication interface (SCI), voice and audio codec interfaces, and the BlueRF interface to the radio.
Both the radio transceiver and baseband IC are highly integrated, which minimises the need for external components.
The HD157100 radio transceiver is available in a QFN-36 package measuring 6.2 x 6.2 x 0.8mm.
The SH7630 baseband processor can be ordered as a TBGA-208 package (12.0 x 12.0 x 1.2 mm) or an FP-176 package (26.0 x 26.0 x 1.7mm).
Samples will be available from Q2 2002.
