Hitachi Europe has announced the immediate availability of a new series of 16bit microcontrollers featuring 32Kbyte on-chip RAM - the first in the industry to do so.

Hitachi has launched its most integrated GSM RF transceiver solution to date.
It is a general-purpose device that is suitable for many uses in consumer, industrial, telecomms and automotive applications.
The H8S/2319F offers 512Kbyte of embedded high-speed Flash and 8Kbyte of RAM.
The single-voltage Flash can be programmed in-circuit, either by the built-in boot software or by the customer's application.
In common with all other H8S/231x derivatives, the device operates at 3.3V/25MHz delivering approximately 10MIPS Dhrystone CPU performance.
It offers several low power modes, such as sleep (CPU off), module standby (individual peripherals off), medium speed mode (clock gearing) and standby (all clocks off).
To keep cost down, the H8S/2319F features a lean peripheral set that includes a powerful six-channel 16bit timer unit, two serial ports, an eight channel 10bit analogue/digital convertor, a two channel 8bit digital/analogue convertor, and up to 79 I/O lines.
The set also includes Hitachi's data transfer controller (DTC), which is a versatile pseudo direct memory access (DMA) control.
This module can serve almost all peripherals and memory with data transfers, thus removing such tasks from the CPU and allowing it to concentrate on its primary task of calculations.
The DTC adds almost no cost to the device, because its die size is that of a "one-channel DMA".
A special version of the H8S/2319F, the HD64F2319EVTE25, features a powerful on-chip debug (OCD) called H-UDI, a subset of JTAG.
Support for this OCD is available from Lauterbach (www.lauterbach.com) and later this year from Hitachi.
The device (and all the H8S/231x series) is also supported by Hitachi's E6000 In-circuit real-time emulator and by Lauterbach's high-end Trace32-Fire emulator.
The H8S/231x series is available in a number of fully compatible versions, including two ROMless, five mask ROM and five embedded Flash devices (from 128 to 512Kbyte).
All derivatives of the H8S/231x are available now in 100-pin TQFP packages.
