MCUs have a huge 32Kbyte of RAM on-chip
Hitachi Europe has announced the immediate availability of a new series of 16bit microcontrollers featuring 32Kbyte on-chip RAM - the first in the industry to do so.
Most integrated GSM RF transceiver so far
Hitachi has launched its most integrated GSM RF transceiver solution to date.
This is a similar low level to that of passive colour LCD systems, making the device suitable for use in digital mobile phones and similar products.
Volume production will begin in November 2002.
The HD66773 supports a 132 x 176pixel display, the largest class of display screen size for mobile phones, and can show up to 260,000 colours using the on-chip hardware dither circuit.
An eight-colour display mode for primary-colour display can be used as a power-down function.
This mode cuts current dissipation by halting the supply of unnecessary gradation-level power circuits, providing a drastic reduction in system power consumption.
The controller driver incorporates a high-speed burst RAM-write function that enables processing at a maximum speed of 160Mbit/s.
This function allows large-volume data writing, such as colour image data writing and high-speed display rewriting of RAM data for smooth moving-image display.
A 9/18bit interface for 260,000 colour and a 8/16bit interface for 65,000 colour systems are provided to allow easy porting from existing LCD systems to the HD66773.
Chip-on-glass (COG) mounting is supported, whereby the device is mounted directly face-down on the LCD glass substrate.
As the HD66773 is a single-chip it can be positioned at the bottom of the glass, with the display position in the centre of the glass.
This provides a reduction in the liquid crystal panel glass size as well as a reduction in the number of parts.
