MCUs have a huge 32Kbyte of RAM on-chip
Hitachi Europe has announced the immediate availability of a new series of 16bit microcontrollers featuring 32Kbyte on-chip RAM - the first in the industry to do so.
Most integrated GSM RF transceiver so far
Hitachi has launched its most integrated GSM RF transceiver solution to date.
The H8S/2282F employs a 0.35um process and incorporates a high-end H8S/2000 CPU core enabling it to achieve a minimum instruction execution time of 50ns (at a 20MHz operating frequency).
The microcontroller features 128Kbyte of on-chip flexible zero turn-around time (F-ZTAT) Flash memory and uses a single power supply for data writing and erasing.
A frequency division function enables 32kHz oscillation to be obtained from the main clock (single crystal), ensuring accurate timing throughout the temperature range.
An Hitachi Controller Area Network (HCAN) on the device allows data buffer storage of 16 messages and achieves a maximum communication speed of 1Mbit/s.
A CANbus wake-up function is provided to wake up the microcontroller during standby mode.
This is an essential feature for automotive systems.
The new device also features a motor control pulsewidth modulation (PWM) timer.
This has built-in drivers which offer direct drive of the stepping motors controlling the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and water temperature indicator.
The 28 x 4 LCD used to indicate trip distance can also be directly driven, eliminating the need for external power drivers.
All these functions are incorporated in a compact 100-pin quad flatpack (QFP), helping to reduce the size of dashboard systems for which only a limited mounting area is available.
The 0.65mm pin pitch enables a low-cost, single-layer printed circuit board to be used.
Hitachi's existing H8S Series C compiler, assembler, linkage editor, librarian, simulator, debugger etc, are available for use as a software development environment.
The E6000 real-time emulator can be used as hardware development environment for the device.
Sample shipments of the H8S/2282F will begin in Q4 2002.
