HelloSoft and Commetrex have formed a technology partnership that will bring Commetrex' industry-leading PowerRelay for T.38 fax technology to applications that use RISC processors.

HelloSoft and Commetrex have formed a technology partnership that will bring Commetrex' industry-leading PowerRelay for T.38 fax technology to applications that use RISC processors HelloSoft is optimising PowerRelay to several industry leading RISC processors to offer the technology to semiconductor vendors and OEMs as a part of HelloSoft's integrated VoIP product suite, HelloVoice

Commetrex is a leading member of Texas Instrument's Third-Party Developer's Network, and offers its fax technology on the Texas Instruments TMS320C5000 and C6000 DSPs, which are widely used in high-capacity systems.

HelloSoft is a pioneer in providing VoIP software solutions for IP endpoints that are based on RISC microprocessors.

OEMs use HelloVoice to significantly reduce the cost and time-to-market required to develop analogue telephone adapters, IP phones, wireless IP phone handsets, residential gateways, and other VoIP enabled devices.

The HelloVoice software suite from HelloSoft is an end-to-end VoIP solution that includes G.711, G.726, G.723.1 and G.729a/b vocoders, G.168-2000 line echo canceller, G.167 acoustic echo canceller, voice activity detection, comfort noise generation, jitter buffer, packet loss concealment, DTMF detection and generation, call progressive analysis, caller ID, RTP/RTCP protocols, SIP call signalling, call control manager, and multichannel system-level framework.

Commetrex' PowerRelay for T.38 is used by telecomms equipment OEMs to develop PSTN-IP gateways that offer robust fax-transport.

T.38 is the ITU recommendation for the real-time transport of Group 3 faxes over IP networks.

Gateways with T.38 convey fax-image data across the IP network without creating the discontinuities in the data and frequent failed sessions that result from packet loss when the fax transmission is conveyed using the gateway's voice facilities.

Commetrex maintains that the media-specific processing of T.38 is necessary in access gateways to avoid degrading the fax transmission.

Muhammad Helal, HelloSoft's Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, explains: "We are seeing a significant increase in demand for T.38 fax relay from our current and potential customers".

"Therefore, we decided to license Commetrex' industry-leading T.38 fax relay to include in our HelloVoice product suite".

"Commetrex' technology is interop-proven as a result of its four-plus-years of field experience and nearly three years as the reference standard in Commetrex' T.38 Interoperability Lab".

"We're very pleased with this collaboration between our companies because it increases the addressable market for our products", says Mohan Kinra, Commetrex' Director, Western Region Sales.

"HelloSoft is a leader in the VoIP space, and has one of the most comprehensive portfolios of supported processors in the industry".

"We are particularly pleased to have them as our technology and marketing partner".
