Diode array protects comms interfaces from ESD
Now available exclusively in the UK from Hunter Electronics, the ProTek Devices ET108 is a low-capacitance steering diode array for common-mode transient protection.
Diode array protects up to six I/O ports
The ProTek Devices I06LC is a high-speed low-capacitance steering diode array for the protection of up to six data lines or I/O ports against ESD transient threats.
Usable on two USB data ports for protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical fast transient (EFT) threat conditions, the USB208 has four diode pairs that divert transient currents to the power bus and/or ground.
The device's low capacitance results in minimal signal distortion at frequencies up to 900MHz.
In addition, the USB208 can be placed after a connector on the printed-circuit board to minimise the transient current return path and obtain a low ground impedance connection.
The USB208 offers a repetitive reverse voltage of greater than 70V, and can be used to protect data lines at voltages of 3-36V.
It can be configured for either unidirectional or bidirectional signal or digital data line applications.
Pins 2 and 5 are connected to the positive voltage bus to ground, respectively, to enable unidirectional overvoltage protection.
For bidirectional applications, the pins are connected, respectively, to the positive and negative bus.
In addition to the IEC61000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2) ESD, and IEC61000-4-4 (EN61000-4-4) EFT transient requirements, the USB208 will also meet the 24A, 8/20 requirements of IEC61000-4-5 (EN61000-4-5).
