SM connectors aim for high-datarate integrity
Honda Connectors has a new range of surface-mount connectors specifically designed for high-speed signal interfaces such as Ultra SCSI-320, PCI-X and future Ultra SCSI-640.
Honda Connectors has a new range of surface-mount connectors specifically designed for high-speed signal interfaces such as Ultra SCSI-320, PCI-X and future Ultra SCSI-640.
The 0.8mm-pitch HDRA series is available in standard 68-pin and dual 136-pin configuration and offers a complete solution including straight PCB connectors, board-edge styles for SMT assembly.
The surface-mount HDRA uses an advanced two-piece construction that not only minimises track length, but also simplifies assembly and production.
The short track length helps to minimise propagation delay and skew, ensuring excellent performance even at Ultra-SCSI datarates of 640Mbit/s.
At these frequencies a number of effects are introduced that can lead to unacceptable transmission error rates.
These include imbalances in the SCSI bus, signal attenuation, increased reflections due to the higher signal slew rate and inter-symbol attenuation (ISI).
Their design uses the shortest possible contact length to reduce delays.
Delivery is tape-and-reel format to suit the latest production techniques.
The new SM HDRA connectors are complemented by a full range of through-hole versions in straight or right-angle configuration, IDC connectors, EMI-filtered housings and complete cable assemblies.
To ensure longevity and reliability, the connectors use high-quality beryllium-copper contacts plated with a combination of gold-palladium on a dual nickel base (Au/Pd-Ni/Ni).
Two-layer gold plating is further contributes to integrity and longevity of electrical contacts.
Meticulous tooling design which reduces the stresses to interconnects during manufacture, is an additional vital component of the HDRA series reliability equation.
Honda has invested in extensive preproduction testing and evaluation - essential in meeting high-performance standards such as Ultra320 SCSI.
