Module boosts scope of real-time DSP
systems
The PC9-EM1 is a new interboard connection module for HEPC9.
The PC9-EM1 is a new interboard connection module for HEPC9 The interboard modules extend the real-time architecture across multiple module carrier boards, extending the number of Heron modules that can exist as part of the same real-time system

Hunt Engineering has extended its Heron range of modular products for digital signal processing to offer modules that use Xilinx FPGAs to offer powerful DSP processing and hugely flexible I/O.
The PC9-EM1 is a lower cost option than the fully featured PC9-EM2, supporting low-datarate connections between multiple Heron boards in the same PC.
Heron modular DSP systems implement Hunt's HEART (Hunt Engineering architecture using ring technology) which is a software configurable internode communications system based on "virtual FIFOs" that guarantee bandwidth and real time performance.
Interboard modules such as the PC9-EM1 allow the virtual FIFOs of HEART to be connected between boards while maintaining the real time guarantee.
The HEPC9-EM1 uses simple ribbon cables to offer 40Mbyte/s connections between boards.
A second option the PC9-EM1C allows connection of legacy Hunt Engineering C4x systems to the latest Heron systems.
Heron systems offer a wide range of DSP modules which includes Texas Instruments C6000 and Xilinx FPGA modules and a variety of high-speed I/O interfaces.
Modules can be mounted on a single carrier or multiple carriers in any chosen combination.
