Modular kit kickstarts Renesas MCU
projects

Kit targets the full range of Renesas R8C, M16C and M32C devices by employing a modular design with a single base application board and several MCU modules.

IAR Systems has announced a new product group in its family of IAR KickStart Kits, targeting the full range of Renesas R8C, M16C and M32C devices by employing a modular design with a single base application board and several MCU modules This new modular IAR KickStart Kit contains all the necessary tools for initial evaluation and prototyping on the R8C/M16C/M32C microcontroller range, giving developers the opportunity to test several microcontrollers - 8, 16 and 32bit - within the same core family, with the flexibility to change the MCU during the course of the evaluation

Using the same fully-featured tools that will be used when real product development starts makes it possible to avoid the delays and errors that can be caused by changing tools and development environment after evaluation proof-of-concept milestone is reached.

Because this is such a versatile evaluation platform, with MCU modules ranging from the R8C/Tiny general-purpose series up to M32C/80 microcontrollers offering up to 16Mbyte of addressable memory in combination with rich peripheral sets, the kits are ideal for developing embedded systems for a wide range of applications including: motor control, industrial automation, consumer electronics, robotics, white goods and medical monitors.

The new kit has been developed in co-operation with leading German distributor MSC Vertriebs, which has extensive experience of supporting the Renesas microcontroller line.

The new IAR KickStart Kit includes code-limited versions of IAR Embedded Workbench: for M16C, M32C and one for R8C.

Also included is an application base board fitted with one MCU module from the seven types available from the R8C, M16C or M32C device families.

The board is fitted with three serial interfaces - two MAX232 and one TTL - along with a USB to serial interface, CAN with transceiver, user LEDs, a 16 x 2 character LCD module with LED backlight, a LDR and potentiometer connected to the A/D-channel, encoder switch with pushbutton, a MMC/SD card interface and other features.

The kit also includes a Renesas E8-USB debugger, which works for all the relevant MCUs and can be driven from within IAR Embedded Workbench, and all the necessary cables and documentation. Request a free brochure from IAR Systems ...
