Shanghai Bell selects IDT for optical
transport
IDT's octal E1 line interface unit, 2Kx2K time slot interchange switch and quad codec have been chosen for next-generation access and optical transport applications from Alcatel Shanghai Bell.
IDT's octal E1 line interface unit (LIU); 2Kx2K time slot interchange (TSI) switch; and quad codec have been chosen for several next-generation access and optical transport applications from Alcatel Shanghai Bell, China's leading telecom infrastructure and solutions provider IDT's telecomms products offered Alcatel Shanghai Bell's designers an excellent combination of integrated features, performance and programmability for voice processing, TDM switching and transport requirements in their new optical add/drop multiplexer (ADM), access network, and optical transmission system applications

IDT's 2Kx2K TSI switches provide full non-blocking capacities for 2K DS-0 channels and pulse code modulation (PCM) rates up to 8Mbit/s in Alcatel Shanghai Bell's General Access (GA) system, which supports aggregation of POTS, ISDN and lease-line traffic with integrated DS-0 servicing, for concentration onto an STM-1 link.
IDT's quad codec delivers an advanced feature set and full programmability of the analogue interface characteristics, allowing for easy adaptation of a single design into any country's phone network through software.
Alcatel Shanghai Bell's OTS-8500 optical transmission system takes advantage of this programmability, allowing it to support analogue voice traffic over various POTS networks with a single bill of materials.
