IP coprocessors provide flexible search width
IDT has released its first commercially available Internet protocol coprocessor product portfolio that enables up to OC-768 wire speed to support ever-increasing packet processing requirements.
By delivering frequencies up to 400MHz, the IDT RC32434 processor is ideally suited to meet the system performance needs of digital home networking applications, while providing additional CPU overhead to enable system differentiation and ease system upgrades as new digital media standards emerge.
A 32bit version 2.2 PCI controller offers connectivity to off-the-shelf peripherals such as 802.11a/b/g and serial ATA.
The new processor also includes a single Ethernet channel that enables speeds of up to 100Mbit/s with options for either a standard media independent interface (MII) or reduced MII (RMII), which provides connectivity to a wide range of networking devices and equipment.
An integrated 64byte nonvolatile RAM and an authentication unit for security functionality allow designers to differentiate their designs by developing solutions that enable digital content protection applications and unique identification storage.
In addition, the NVRAM adds value to general-purpose applications, removing the need for certain external peripherals that store system configuration data and device identification such as IP addresses.
IDT offers an internally developed, royalty-free IDT Linux-based software package that includes extensive peripheral driver support, as well as comprehensive libraries for many protocols and applications.
Linux and VxWorks board support packages for the RC32434 processor are also available from IDT.
The RC32434 processor is software compatible with the other members of the IDT Interprise family, allowing customers to choose from a large suite of proven third-party MIPS software development tools, such as Green Hills and Wind River, and a variety of off-the-shelf applications.
