Two new devices from IDT are billed as the industry's lowest-cost network search engines in 32K x 72bit configurations.

IDT has released what it reckons are the industry's lowest-cost network search engines in 32K x 72bit configurations The two new NSEs interface to ASICs and FPGAs, and are ideally suited for cost-sensitive applications in the enterprise and access markets, including VPNs, firewalls, Layer-2 and Layer-3 Ethernet switches, broadband remote access servers, digital subscriber line access multiplexers, cable modem termination systems and voice and wireless gateways

The 75N42102 NSE operates at 100 million searches per second and can achieve search rates up to 200 million searches per second by using simultaneous multi-database lookup (SMDL), a feature that allows for efficient multiple packet searches.

The IDT 75N43102 NSE is the industry's lowest-cost NSE and operates at 62.5 million searches per second.

Both NSEs are optimised for cost-sensitive systems that need to achieve increased packet-processing rates to facilitate additional services such as QoS support, IP security, classification, traffic management, ATM forwarding, and address classification.

The 75N42102 NSE also includes a glue-less interface to standard zero bus turnaround or synchronous pipelined burst SRAMs to support associated data tables.

The devices offer the ability to cascade up to eight (75N42102) or two NSEs (75N43102) in order to support larger databases.

The devices also support multiple databases for a variety of applications related to multi-field classification and are available in search widths up to 288bit.

The 75N43102 is available in a cost-effective 256-ball pBGA, and the 75N42102 is packaged in a 304-ball SBGA.
