They can also call on the advice and support of Dave Hewlett from the Formula Schools company, which runs the annual competition and is funded by the Learning and Skills Council.
Formula Schools provides each team with a basic kit of parts.
What they do with it (within competition guidelines) is up to them, but as Hewlett comments: "We want every single team to turn up at Silverstone and race their car".
The school entered the contest last year for the first time with a team of just four students, and finished third on the track and eighth overall.
The sponsorship from Infineon will enable them to enhance their design from last year, including the addition of differential traction and more sophisticated suspension, and they hope to secure an even better position this year.
Steve Wright, Infineon's Applications Engineering Manager, adds: "The Formula Schools competition is an excellent way to encourage young people to take an interest in engineering, and also develops their business and marketing skills.
Infineon will help the team in whatever way we can".
