IFR has won a 3-year contract from BT to supply IFR2843 digital communication analysers for use as personal issue testers by BT field engineers.

IFR has won a 3-year contract from British Telecommunications (BT) to supply IFR2843 digital communication analysers for use as personal issue testers by BT field engineers involved in network installation, support and maintenance The award is in addition to an existing contract originally won by IFR in 1996 to supply earlier versions of field testers, known internally at BT as Tester 455s

IFR has so far supplied BT with more than 1600 units.

Underpinning the trend towards the deskilling of telecommunications network measurement, the IFR2843 features a single page 'Quick Menu' setup and test for the fast and simple implementation of basic installation and maintenance error measurements, but also has detailed and comprehensive testing for fault localisation and network equipment measurements.

Automated setup and configuration stores also enhance ease of setup.

The IFR2843 is capable of storing up to eight full sets of results for later on-screen analysis or printing, whilst remote unattended operation of the analyser can be accomplished via an RS232 port, which can also be used for local printing, configuration and reporting of results.

Allowing five hours of operation when both transmitter and receiver are being used, the battery life is extended in monitoring applications where the transmitter can be switched off.

Fast charge circuits coupled with an AC power adaptor enable recharge in only three hours.

For extended operation the AC power adaptor can be used with the batteries as standby in the event of a power failure.

Paul Blakemore, IFR's Product Manager for the 2843, said "We have worked closely with BT to define and implement enhancements to the original tester.

Timely and effective responses by IFR to requests for support, problem solving and training have contributed to BT's decision to extend further our excellent relationship".
