IFR Systems is expanding the range of the IFR 2935 GSM radio test system to cover the R-GSM and the GSM 850 frequencies The R-GSM frequency band is used by the R-GSM railway private communications system in Europe

Coverage of the R-GSM band is essential for organisations that want to win railway-based service and maintenance contracts for R-GSM handsets.

GSM 850 is a new frequency band used in North and South America where TDMA-based mobile handsets are being phased out in favour of GSM/GPRS handsets.

The 2935 also provides for GPRS testing, via optional software download.

Managers of test and repair facilities will now be able to support these additional GSM frequency bands today or in the future when expanding their business to include repair and maintenance of R-GSM or GSM 850 phones.

Existing 2935 owners can upgrade their instruments instantly at IFR's Website.

All new instruments include the software upgrade.

"IFR is continually expanding the capability of the 2935 and leveraging this test platform, which has received wide acceptance among mobile phone repair centers for the repair and maintenance of GSM handsets.

This free upgrade allows current and new owners of the 2935 to expand their workshop's capabilities to handle the R-GSM and GSM 850 testing requirements", said Bob Vogel, vice president, product development, IFR.

The 2935 is a high-speed test head that has all the protocol control necessary to carry out GSM transmitter and receiver measurements in accordance with the ETSI 300 607-1 specification.

The 2935 is bundled with IFR's innovative PhoneTest software and is ideal for cost-effective GSM handset service and test operations.

The 2935 test set platform offers full R-GSM, P-GSM, E-GSM, GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 frequency bands on a single platform to streamline the complete service process.

PhoneTest allows the storage and retrieval of test and repair information, generation of warranty claim forms, repair hints based on the analysis of past repairs, management reporting and repair process tracking.

PhoneTest also provides interchange of data with existing computer systems.
