New from Inertial Aerosystems is a novel low-cost digital compass incorporated in a 6.5mm-square LCC chip.

The HMC6353 combines a dual-axis magnetoresistive sensor with all the analogue and digital circuitry for an electronic compass function.

Combining the complete hardware and software solution in one component alleviates product designers from the need to develop compassing algorithms and user-calibration routines and quickens time to market.

Manufactured by US-based Honeywell, the compass operates from 2.7 to 5.2V with the compass heading output via a two wire I2C serial bus interface.

This small-size low-power integrated compass is designed for low-cost high-volume applications including wireless handsets, sport watches, GPS receivers, PDAs and telematics.
