Guaranteed production until at least 2020 means that users of the fido MCU can be assured of long-lifecycle end products.

Innovasic Semiconductor is guaranteeing production of its fido (flexible input deterministic output) microcontroller family until at least 2020 This guarantee is expected to be most important to companies that supply embedded control and communications products that are available for long periods of time or are not frequently redesigned

"As a developer of replacement microcontrollers and peripherals for long lifecycle customers, Innovasic has never made one of its replacement ICs obsolete", said Keith Prettyjohns, CEO of Innovasic Semiconductor.

"And we don't plan to start with fido".

This guarantee is the first of its kind in the industry, providing vendors of long lifecycle products with relief from end of life notices.

According to a previous survey by Electronics Weekly, two-thirds of designers had experienced difficulties with components going obsolete in the previous six months.

Additionally, in a survey conducted by Innovasic, 81% of engineers identified obsolescence one of their top three when choosing a new microcontroller for their design.

Because of Innovasic's lengthy and proven experience in the long-life market and their strong fab relationships, the company can offer customers the fido guarantee, helping them maximise their investments in design, and ensuring that their products are useful to customers for extended periods.

A signed certificate guaranteeing a fido supply will be included in every evaluation development kit.

The fido family of 32bit real-time microcontrollers was designed from the ground up for embedded control and communications applications.

This innovative new architecture redefines the boundaries between hardware and software, providing deterministic performance with its unique "RTOS kernel in a chip", an RTOS kernel built into the silicon.

This, along with the flexibility of programmable I/O peripherals, distinguishes fido from other microcontrollers.
