Leading Korean VDSL equipment manufacturers have selected multimode VDSL2 central office (CO) and customer premises equipment to offer products that support VDSL2 infrastructure upgrades

Ikanos Communications has announced that leading Korean VDSL equipment manufacturers Millinet and Ubiquoss have selected its multimode VDSL2 central office (CO) and customer premises equipment (CPE) chipsets.

With the Ikanos products, Millinet and Ubiquoss are able to offer products capable of symmetrical speeds up to 100Mbit/s that support infrastructure upgrades to VDSL2 now underway in Korea.

Millinet and Ubiquoss chose Ikanos' FxTM100100-5 VDSL2 CO and FxTM100100S-5 VDSL2 CPE chipsets for their ability to offer what the companies believe to be the best feature set, performance, reliability, and the lowest power consumption per port in the industry.

The multimode VDSL2 chipsets - which are optimised for IPTV and triple play offerings - also are backwards compatible with VDSL1 solutions currently in use in Korea, enabling carriers to maximise their existing investments in broadband infrastructure.

"Ikanos brings a wealth of experience to the Korean broadband market", says Daniel K Atler, CEO of Ikanos.

"Our VDSL2 CO and CPE chipsets are designed to provide the industry's best performance and a rich set of features that meet Korean carriers' requirements for upgrading their networks to support faster speeds and new broadband offerings".

"The Korean market is one of the most progressive when it comes to deployment of residential broadband services", says Jeff Heynen, Directing Analyst, Broadband and IPTV at Infonetics Research.

"Ikanos already has a strong and well established reputation in Korea by delivering the advanced technology service providers need to deploy triple play offerings".

"Now, with its Fx series of multimode chipsets, Ikanos will further strengthen its position in the Korean market by enabling more rapid and cost-effective rollouts of new, cutting-edge applications".

"Selecting Ikanos for Korean VDSL2 deployments was an easy decision", says Kwang-Hoon Yoo, CEO at Millinet.

"Ikanos' multimode CO and CPE chipsets are clearly the best in the industry when it comes to feature-set, density, power, performance, and reliability, all of which are critical in helping us maintain our leading market share of VDSL2 equipment at Korea Telecom".

"Moreover, the rich feature set of these chipsets is impressive because it simplifies and speeds deployment of new, revenue-generating services, such as IPTV and triple play".

"By investing in Ikanos' advanced multimode VDSL2 hardware and software solutions, we are able to minimise our development costs and quickly deliver a superior product to our customers", says Sang-Keun Lee, President and CEO at Ubiquoss".

""Ikanos' leadership solutions not only allow us to support carriers' infrastructure upgrades in Korea, but enable our expansion worldwide".
