Mercury is the only gateway vendor to successfully pass the Korean telco's rigorous benchmark testing and reach field trial deployment.
The PHY-agnostic residential gateway powered by the Fusiv Vx155 enables the Korean telco to deploy this gateway in fibre to the building (FTTB), fibre to the home (FTTH) and fibre to the remote (FTTR) architectures for triple-play applications.
Ikanos' Fusiv Vx155 delivers wirespeed performance of 100Mbit/s with customised quality of service (QoS) and firewall/security capabilities for distributing rich-media services inside the home.
Datapath processing is offloaded from external components onto the Vx155's on-chip accelerator processors (APs), reducing overall system cost.
"Ikanos' distributed Fusiv architecture gave us an advantage in meeting the Korean telco's demanding performance requirements", said Jong-Hyeop Kim, Director of Research and Design at Mercury.
"The Vx155 chip provides unparalleled integration of voice, signal and network protocol processing, while outperforming other competing solutions in terms of price and performance for triple-play gateways".
"Ikanos also provided Mercury Corporation with a complete software solution with the Vx155, including proven device drivers, as well as VoIP and networking stacks, which significantly accelerated our time to market".
With 1.4GHz of total processing power, the Fusiv Vx155 offers a highly flexible accelerator processor architecture that handles data path tasks, while leaving the main CPU available for applications.
The Fusiv Vx155 supports wire speed packet processing for bandwidth intensive applications, with 300,000 packets per second of routing performance with network address translation (NAT) and firewall-enabled software.
With its on-chip digital signal processor (DSP)/voice engine, the Fusiv Vx155 is capable of supporting up to four channels of full-chain voice over internet protocol (VoIP) for residential and small office/home office (SOHO) applications.
