Roadmap on the Productronica agenda

An iNEMI (International Electronics Mfg Initiative) product story

The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative will hold the first regional meeting to kick off its next industry roadmap at the Productronica trade fair in Munich next month.

The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI), an industry-led consortium, will hold the first regional meeting to kick off its next industry roadmap at the Productronica trade fair in Munich next month.

The meeting, cosponsored by Fraunhofer IZM, IEEE's CPMT (Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology) Society and IMAPS Europe, is scheduled for Wednesday 16th November.

In addition, iNEMI will be making presentations at four Productronica-sponsored forums, and has scheduled two project-related meetings.

Since 1994, iNEMI has mapped the future manufacturing technology needs of the global electronics industry in an effort to identify key technology and infrastructure developments needed to ensure the competitiveness of the supply chain over the next decade.

In 2004, iNEMI began proactively recruiting global participation in the roadmapping process.

This year's meeting at Productronica is intended to help broaden European input into the 2007 roadmap (which will be developed throughout 2006).

"In the last roadmap cycle, organisations such as the Fraunhofer IZM and IMAPS Europe provided invaluable input to our effort".

"This cycle, we are hoping to further expand European involvement in roadmap development, and see the Productronica show as an excellent venue for reaching out to industry", says Jim McElroy, CEO of iNEMI.

"Today's electronics industry is truly global, and the more participation we get from key regions around the globe, the more valuable the final product will be".

"We hope to increase European participation in, and leadership of, the 2007 iNEMI roadmap".

"We want to ensure that our next roadmap accurately reflects the important technology and infrastructure issues facing European electronics companies, and this meeting is our first step toward that goal".

McElroy notes that iNEMI membership is not required to participate in roadmap development.

Further details about the meeting and a registration form can be found on the iNEMI website.
